We're so proud of the announcement we made in Washington, D.C. to support hunger relief organizations with $2 billion through 2015. I'll be posting photos and videos from the event. Also, the upper right hand of this page has a link where you can sign up to be part of our Fighting Hunger Together campaign. Meals for Moms

As many of you know, the Walmart Foundation continues to be our largest sponsor and they are committed to helping us end hunger.  With Mother’s Day right around the corner, Walmart thought we should let you know about our latest campaign, Meals for Moms.

By going to our new microsite, www.mealsformoms.org, you can send a free virtual bouquet of flowers to anyone for Mother’s Day, including a homebound, hungry senior mom. The majority of the senior mothers we serve will not see anyone on Mother’s Day.  Just the simple act of sending a card will brighten their day and make them feel like someone has remember them on that special day.

Our goal is to send 10,000 e-cards this Mother’s Day.  Will you help us?  Please visit www.mealsformoms.org to take action right now and make a difference.

Local Look at Meals on Wheels Grant

Thanks to the Walmart Foundation Impact Grant Program, one of our Meals On Wheels programs was able to purchase and replace items that they desperately needed in order to continue providing meals to homebound seniors. South Coast Seniors, Inc. in Point Arena, CA was able to replace both their old stove and cutting table with the funds and could not be more delighted. The Walmart Foundation has helped to truly make an impact in their local community.

Walmart and Sam’s Club: Feeding America’s 2010 Donor of the Year

Last week, at Feeding America’s annual Network Summit in Austin, Texas, more than 500 people from our network of food banks across the country and our national office witnessed a moment of great celebration as Walmart and Sam’s Club were named Feeding America’s 2010 Donor of the Year.

Feeding America president and CEO, Vicki Escarra, presented the 2010 Donor of the Year award to Margaret McKenna, president of the Walmart Foundation.

Everyone at Feeding America is thrilled about the award, as the impact of our partnership with Walmart and Sam’s Club is truly incredible.

As you’ll see in this video, 2009 was an outstanding year for our partnership. Throughout this past year, food donations from Walmart and Sam’s Club totaled to 116 million pounds. This was not only the first time a donor has provided more than 100 million pounds over the course of one calendar year, but the largest-ever annual food donation to Feeding America in the organization’s history.

We thank Walmart and Sam’s Club on behalf of Feeding America’s national office and the more than 200 food banks and 61,000 agencies across the nation that are able to provide more fresh, nutritious food to people in need.

Last fall, the USDA reported that 49 million Americans are struggling with hunger. Our country is in crisis right now and this could not have come at a better time for us.

Thank you to Walmart and Sam’s Club for joining Feeding America in the fight toward a hunger-free America. And congratulations to our 2010 Donor of the Year!
