Walmart Gives Back Kick-off Event

Yesterday was a big day in Madison, Wisc.! I was onsite as Walmart and The Walmart Foundation deployed 35 trucks to food banks across the U.S. and as we announced a $2.2 million grant to Meals on Wheels. This was all to kick-off our "Walmart Gives Back" holiday giving campaign.

One of the highlights of my day was the dozens of Walmart and Sam's Club associates who attended the presentation and showed their support for the announcement. The event wouldn't have been the same without the cheers and enthusiasm from my fellow associates. I've attached a quick highlight reel from my day onsite. I hope you enjoy it!

Great video. It was cool to see all the associates volunteering! As one of Walmart's More Than Elevenmoms, we are supporters of Walmart Gives Back, and hope that by working together this holiday season, we can reach more people than ever who are in need. It's great to see so many trucks going to food banks across the country!

I am curious to know how the 35 food bank locations were chosen. Can anyone provide more information on the selection process! Thanks!

Hi Money Savin' Momma - I will jump in here to answer your question.

In order to determine which of Feeding America’s 200+ network food banks would receive Walmart trucks, Feeding America and Walmart participated in a joint review process. This began when an RFP (Request for Proposal) was issued to food banks in July and ended with final decisions in September. More than 100 applications came through, with competitive decisions based on the expected measureable impact of receiving one of these trucks.
